Effective date: 19 July 2026
PaletteWorkshop is developed and operated by Warren Peters (“I”, “me” or “my”). I respect your privacy and have designed PaletteWorkshop to minimise the collection and use of personal information.
This policy explains how information is handled when you use the PaletteWorkshop macOS application, visit the PaletteWorkshop website or contact me for support.
1. Who is responsible for your information?
For the purposes of applicable data-protection law, the data controller is:
Email: peters456@btinternet.com
Location: United Kingdom
2. Information handled by the PaletteWorkshop app
PaletteWorkshop does not require an account and does not include advertising, third-party analytics or tracking technologies.
Palette information
Palettes, colour values, colour names, notes, tags, favourites and related settings are stored locally on your Mac.
I do not receive or have access to this information.
If you export a palette, the exported file is saved only to the location you select. PaletteWorkshop does not automatically upload exported palettes or their contents to a server.
Application settings
A small number of preferences are stored locally on your Mac, including:
- Your preferred RGB or HSV editing mode
- Whether the app has previously requested an App Store review
- The number of successfully created palettes used to determine review-request eligibility
These settings are not transmitted to me.
Purchases
PaletteWorkshop offers a lifetime Pro unlock through Apple’s App Store and StoreKit.
Apple processes the transaction and manages the purchase entitlement. I do not receive your payment-card or banking information. Apple may provide transaction information necessary to confirm that the Pro unlock has been purchased, restored, refunded or revoked.
Apple handles this information according to its own privacy policy and App Store terms.
App Store reviews
PaletteWorkshop may ask the macOS StoreKit system to display an App Store review request. Apple decides whether the request appears and handles any rating or review you submit.
The app also provides a link that opens the PaletteWorkshop review page in the App Store. I do not receive information about whether you dismissed the request or which rating you submitted.
3. Information handled by the website
The PaletteWorkshop website does not intentionally collect personal information through user accounts, advertising or behavioural analytics.
The website’s hosting provider may automatically process limited technical information when you visit, such as:
- Your Internet Protocol address
- Browser and operating-system information
- The date and time of a request
- Pages or files requested
- Diagnostic, security and error-log information
4. Cookies
The PaletteWorkshop website does not intentionally use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies.
The hosting provider may use cookies or similar technical storage where strictly necessary to deliver or secure the website. If non-essential analytics, embedded media or marketing services are added in the future, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated before those services are enabled.
5. Support enquiries
If you contact me by email, I may receive information including:
- Your name and email address
- The contents of your message
- Any diagnostic information, screenshots or files you choose to provide
I use this information only to respond to your enquiry, investigate a reported problem, protect the app and website, or maintain an appropriate record of support correspondence.
Please avoid sending sensitive personal information or confidential palette material unless it is necessary to resolve your enquiry.
6. Legal bases for processing
Where UK data-protection law applies, personal information may be processed on the following bases:
- Legitimate interests: to operate and secure the website, prevent misuse, diagnose faults and respond to ordinary enquiries
- Performance of a contract: where processing is necessary to provide purchased functionality or support relating to PaletteWorkshop
- Legal obligation: where information must be retained or disclosed to comply with applicable law
- Consent: where you have specifically agreed to an optional form of processing
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.
7. Sharing of information
I do not sell or rent personal information.
Information may be handled by service providers only where necessary to operate PaletteWorkshop or its website, including:
- Apple, for App Store distribution, purchases, entitlement management and reviews
- The website-hosting provider, for hosting, security and technical logs
- The email provider, when you contact me by email
- Professional advisers or public authorities where reasonably necessary or legally required
Any service provider acting on my behalf is expected to protect personal information appropriately and use it only for the relevant service.
8. International transfers
Apple, the website-hosting provider or the email provider may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where applicable, those providers are responsible for using legally recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as an adequacy regulation or approved contractual protections. Please consult the relevant provider’s privacy information for details about its processing locations and safeguards.
9. Retention
Palette information and application preferences remain locally on your Mac until you edit or delete them, remove the application’s data or erase the device.
Support emails are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to answer the enquiry, maintain support records, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations. Unless a longer period is required, I aim to delete routine support correspondence within 24 months of the last communication.
Website technical logs are retained according to the hosting provider’s retention practices.
Information may be retained for longer where reasonably required for security, fraud prevention, legal claims or compliance with law.
10. Security
PaletteWorkshop uses Apple platform technologies to store its application data locally.
I take reasonable steps to protect any information received through the website or support communications. However, no electronic storage or internet-transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
You are responsible for securing your Mac, exported palette files and any backups you create.
11. Your rights
Depending on your location and the circumstances, you may have rights concerning personal information held about you, including the right to:
- Request access to your information
- Ask for inaccurate information to be corrected
- Request deletion of your information
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Request a portable copy of qualifying information
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent
- Complain to a data-protection authority
Because PaletteWorkshop stores palette information locally and I cannot access it, requests concerning locally stored palettes should normally be completed directly within the app or by removing its local data.
To exercise a right concerning information I hold, contact peters456@btinternet.com. I may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
UK residents may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office through the ICO website.
12. Children’s privacy
PaletteWorkshop is not directed specifically at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information through a support enquiry, please contact me so that it can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.
13. External services and links
The website and app may link to external services, including Apple’s App Store. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of independent external websites or services.
14. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy when PaletteWorkshop, the website or applicable legal requirements change.
The updated version will be published on this page with a revised effective date. Material changes affecting how personal information is used will be communicated where reasonably appropriate.
