Welcome to MacShot
MacShot is a simple macOS utility for creating polished screenshots for your Mac App Store listing.
Import a screenshot of your app, choose the area you want to show, add a title and background, and export a finished 1280 × 800 PNG ready for use in App Store Connect.
You can create several screenshots within a project, save your work for later, and export individual screenshots or the complete set.
Getting Started
1. Import a Screenshot
Click Import Screenshot and select a PNG or JPEG image from your Mac.
MacShot will open the cropping screen.
Drag over the part of the image you want to include and select Use Selection.
If you want to use the complete imported image, select Use Entire Image instead.
Your image will then appear inside the MacBook frame on the main canvas.
Adding a Title
Enter your text in the Title field.
The canvas updates immediately so you can see how the finished screenshot will look.
You can customise the title using:
- Text Colour — choose any title colour.
- Size — use one of the preset sizes or adjust the slider manually.
- Font — choose from the available font styles.
- Weight — choose Regular, Medium, Semibold or Bold.
Short titles generally work best for App Store screenshots.
Choosing a Background
MacShot provides several ready-made background styles.
Use the Style menu to choose from the available gradient presets, including Ocean, Sunset, Violet, Forest, Midnight and Warm.
Choose Custom if you would prefer a solid background. You can then select your own colour using Background Colour.
Each screenshot in a project can have its own background and title styling.
Working With Multiple Screenshots
A MacShot project can contain multiple screenshots.
Use the Add button in the Screenshots section to create another screenshot.
Select a screenshot from the menu to switch between pages. MacShot keeps the imported image, title, typography and background settings for each screenshot independently.
Use the trash button to remove the currently selected screenshot. A project always retains at least one screenshot.
Saving a Project
Select Save Project to save your current work.
MacShot project files use the .macshot file extension and contain your screenshots and their individual settings.
Saving a project allows you to return later and continue working without recreating your screenshot set.
Opening a Project
Select Open Project and choose a previously saved .macshot file.
MacShot will restore the project’s screenshots along with their titles, images, colours, fonts, sizes and background styles.
Exporting a Screenshot
To export only the currently selected screenshot, click Export PNG.
Choose where you want to save the file.
MacShot exports the finished composition as a 1280 × 800 PNG.
Exporting the Complete Project
Click Export All to export every completed screenshot in the current project.
Choose an export folder and MacShot will create a separate PNG for each screenshot containing an imported image.
Empty screenshot pages are automatically ignored.
A Simple Workflow
For a typical App Store screenshot set:
- Import your first app screenshot and crop it.
- Add a short descriptive title.
- Choose your typography and background.
- Add another screenshot and repeat.
- Save the project so you can return to it later.
- Select Export All when the complete set is ready.
- Upload the resulting PNG files to App Store Connect.
Tips for Good App Store Screenshots
Keep titles short and easy to read. A screenshot usually works best when its title communicates one feature or benefit.
Using the same background style, font and title size across several screenshots can help create a consistent App Store presentation.
Remember that MacShot is intended to keep screenshot creation simple. You don’t need to fill every available space or use different styling on every screenshot—a clear app image and a good title can often do most of the work.
